Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin artificial coverings applied to the front of your natural teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile. They are typically used to correct the appearance of chipped, cracked, or gapped teeth, as well as tooth discoloration. Our experienced dental team at Parkwood Dental Associates has extensive training with veneers and offers several types of elite veneer services to residents of the greater Charleston area.

Types of Veneers:

  1. Composite “Direct” Veneers:

    • Made of thin composite material bonded to the tooth surface.
    • Typically less expensive than other options.
    • Last about three to five years.
    • Applied in a single office visit.
  2. Traditional Porcelain “Indirect” Veneers:

    • Very thin and typically the most expensive type of veneer.
    • Last about five to ten years or more.
    • May require a few office visits for proper application.

Each type of veneer offers different benefits, so we can help you choose the best option for achieving your ideal smile!

Symptoms

You may be a candidate for veneers if you want to improve the appearance of your teeth. Veneers are effective for:

  • Chipped or Broken Teeth: They enhance the look of damaged teeth.
  • Tiny Holes or Pits: Veneers can cover teeth with imperfections, providing a smooth surface.
  • Discoloration: If your teeth are stained from coffee, tea, wine, or smoking, veneers can give you a bright, white smile.
  • Gaps: Veneers can effectively close gaps between teeth, creating a more uniform appearance.

If you’re looking to enhance your smile, veneers might be the ideal solution!

Diagnosis

Your dentist will evaluate your dental history and examine your teeth to determine if you are a candidate for veneers. It’s important to discuss your concerns and expectations regarding veneers with your dentist. This conversation will help your dentist recommend the most suitable type of veneer for your needs, ensuring you achieve the smile you desire.

Treatment

Composite veneers are bonded to your teeth in just one office visit, while traditional porcelain veneers and Lumineer® porcelain veneers are made from molds of your teeth and are designed to match their color and shape. While waiting for traditional porcelain veneers to be created, you may wear a temporary veneer.

Before applying the veneer, your dentist will lightly buff the tooth surface to remove a small amount of enamel. A bonding agent is then applied, and the veneer adheres to the natural tooth. A light beam is used to harden the bonding agent. It’s important to note that the process of applying veneers is irreversible, as it involves the removal of a small portion of the tooth enamel.
